Why We Love Roasted Pecans (And You Should, Too!)

 At my home during the special times of the year, hope to discover little pecan bowls of broiled walnuts and chocolate candy where loved ones can appreciate them while "voyaging". Although my family loves Roasted Pecans so much that they want them throughout the year, we do not acquire pecans until they are freshly harvested in the autumn and early winter. Hint: Commercial pecan growers offer attractive sales in the summer to rid themselves of the old, dried Salted Pecans that they had stored from the previous crop.


Do you know that pecans are the only native North American edible nut? The colonists learned about it from Algonquin natives, who called the nuts a "package", which meant "breaking the shell, then eating Toasted Pecans." I wonder how the package was pronounced because there is a difference in how people pronounce the word pecan. I am particularly happy with those who imagine that the spelling contains "U" or "W". I introduce a "coined word" to them: "refined."


Algonquin natives collected pecans from pecan trees, which were tree stands in the wild. Nuts were small and distinct in taste. Search for varieties of Baked Pecans and you should find several names for tribes of North American natives, most of which belonged to the Algonquin nation. I remember that I had access to wild pecans grown on my grandfather's farm. Nuts were small but very tasty. The region was situated in Northwestern South Carolina, where the Cherokee and Blackfeet clans once meandered.



I wish, unless you found a local source, most likely you would get your Honey Roasted Pecans from a major producer that emphasizes the size and ease of shelling on taste and variety. Expect to see the words "huge" and "soulful" in their pecan descriptions. do not fear. Buy them during the harvest season and roast them anyway!

I like the simple recipe: place the peeled pecans in a bowl. Pour melted butter over them. Sprinkle sea salt over them. Use a spoon to paste the salt and butter into the Toasting Pecans in Oven.


Place the buttered, salty pecan halwa on a foil-lined cookie sheet. Preheat the oven to bake at 325 degrees. The baking setting will fry your Honey Glazed Pecans. Remove them from the broiler following ten minutes.  The delicious aroma will inspire you to munch, but keep in mind: they are heated out of the oven. Don't call them "pecans".


In the Old Testament, the Bible mentions roasting as a recipe that pleases God. Web Search Leviticus 2:14. In that verse, Moses gave a directive to the newly liberated Hebrews that it would please God if they presented themselves with Cinnamon Roasted Pecans kernels of fresh grain (best) before feeding them.


 God appeared for a long time (during the 40 years he fled Egypt) with Moses and the Hebrew people. God used Moses as a writer to write and explain his relationship with mankind, and to awaken the present generation of Abraham's sons and daughters for who they were and what they were expected to do. Moses composed the initial five books of the Old Testament of the Christian Bible.


When you take your Roasted Salted Pecans out of the oven, close your eyes; Smell the intoxicating aroma of Roasted Pecans in the Oven. Realize that God created us in His image. Is it a stretch to believe that he would like that fragrance too?
